Yes, people are living longer today. Yes, having children isn't, in and of itself, a selfish act - although I personally think that it is so a good part of the time.

This, however, is just blatant. I'd say it's representative of the generation at hand, except that the generations to follow - including my own - are even higher on the Act For Self ladder.

Yes, grandparents can keep up with their grandchildren - although not even that, in all cases. But parenting is not the part time job that grandparenting usually is.
